Management versus Leadership

This article originally published in 1977 made the concept of leaders versus managers (where leaders are good and managers are bad) mainstream. As a student of management, this false dichotomy pains me as it has created many misconceptions. Management is not a subset of less than desirable employees within a firm. Rather, management is the art, science, and practice of planning, organizing, leading and controlling in order to coordinate and allocate scarce resources effectively and efficiently.
